What is Summation and how to apply summation on functions?

What is Summation and how to apply summation on functions?

Summation is used to write a large sequence or numbers of terms in a short method. It is widely used in mathematics, as in calculus the use of summation is very important.

In this post we will learn about the definition, basic concept and how to calculate summation through a lot of examples.

What is Summation?

Summation is a process of addition of a sequence of any type of numbers. It is adding up a series of items. A summation is also called sum, is the result of arithmetically adding numbers or quantities. A summation always contains a whole number of terms. It is the sequential addition on a set of numbers. It is simple to do for a few numbers, but can get more complex with fraction, real numbers or algebra. It can also sum function, matrices and vectors. Summation notation is allowing expression that contain a sum to be expressed in simple compact manner. It instructs us to sum elements of a sequence. The variable of summation is represented by an index which is placed beneath the summation sign.

Summation Notation

The upper-case Greek letter sigma written as Σ is used to denote the sum of a set of numbers.

Summation notation as some general formulas.

Rule of Summation

Some basic rules of summation are

Constant rule

When there is a constant inside the summation, we take that constant outside the summation notation.

Example

Solution

Step 1: Take constant outside the summation notation.

Step 2: Solve summation.

Sum rule

When there are two functions having addition notation we use this rule, according to this rule we apply the summation notation separately on both the functions.

Difference rule

When there are two functions having subtraction notation we use this rule, according to this rule we apply the summation notation separately on both the functions.

How to do summation?

Summation Calculator can be used to perform summation on a function. Let us take some examples in order to learn how to calculate summation.

Summary

In this post we have learnt about the definition, notation, rules and how to calculate Summation with the lot of examples. Once you grabbed the knowledge of this topic you can easily solve the problems related to summation.

All About Autoimmune Disease and Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Here in this article,  we will look at what is an autoimmune disease and what are sexually transmitted diseases.

Autoimmune Disease

Autoimmunity is a condition that is characterized by the presence of serum autoantibodies and T cells – self-reactive lymphocytes. It sometimes manifests itself when the body loses immune tolerance (the body distinguishes its antigens from foreign non-self-antigens and does not carry out an immunogenic attack on the former) and performs abnormal immune attacks, whether it is antibodies or T-cells, against a person’s self-antigens.

Some common autoimmune diseases are mentioned below–

  • Celiac disease
  • Graves’ disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Psoriasis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Type 1 diabetes

We will look at the definitions, causes, and symptoms of some of these diseases.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disorder of inflammation of the joints.

Causes

The body’s tissue at joints is attacked by its immune system.

Symptoms

  1. Tender, swollen joints, warm
  2. Usually, the joint stiffness is worse after inactivity like in the mornings
  3. Fever, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that may cause loss of central nervous system function. The immune system attacks the protective sheath of the central nervous system called myelin. The myelin sheath covers the nerve fibers. This can cause connection problems between your brain and body.

Causes

The body’s immune system malfunctions to attack Myelin which is the protective sheath of the CNS.

Symptoms

  1. Dizziness
  2. Fatigue
  3. Partial or complete loss of vision
  4. Problems with sexual, bowel, and bladder function
  5. Slurred speech
  6. Tingling or pain in parts of your body

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Definition, Types, Causes, and Symptoms

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are usually transmitted by unprotected sexual contact from one person to another. Some of the most common sexually transmitted diseases are chlamydia, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, and herpes. We will be discussing some of these STDs.

Chlamydia

It is one of the most frequently reported STDs. It infects men and women. It affects the cervix, re(tum, or throat of women and the urethra, re(tum, or throat of men. It is caused by bacterial infection. If left untreated, it can cause urethral, prostate, or testicular infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and even infertility.

Causes

Bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis

Symptoms
  1. Pain and discomfort during urination and sex
  2. Yellow or green discharge from the vag!na or pen!s
  3. Lower abdomen pain

HIV AIDS

The human immunodeficiency virus causes AIDS by attacking cells that assist the body to resist infections. This makes a person more vulnerable to injury from others. In addition to sexual transmission, it can also be caused by blood transmission and improper use of needles after the use of the affected person.

Causes

  • During pregnancy or through breastfeeding or delivery
  • From blood transfusions
  • Inherited
  • Sharing needles

Symptoms

  1. Chills
  2. Fatigue
  3. Fever
  4. Fevers
  5. Headaches
  6. Muscle aches
  7. Night sweats
  8. Rash
  9. Recurrent fatigue
  10. Sore throat
  11. Stomach issues
  12. Swollen lymph nodes

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is also called the clap is an STI caused by bacteria.

Causes

Neisseria gonorrhoeae or gonococcus is the bacterium that causes Gonorrhoea

Symptoms

  1. A yellow, white, beige, or green-colored discharge from the vag!na or pen!s
  2. Infections of the prostate gland, urethra, or testicles
  3. Infertility
  4. Itching around the area of genitals
  5. More frequent urination than normal
  6. Pain or discomfort during urination or sex
  7. Pelvic inflammatory disease
  8. Sore throat

Trichomoniasis

This is a rare venereal disease caused by protozoa. Infections are difficult to detect, especially in the early stages. It can cause urinary tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and infertility. Learn all about the human brain here.

Causes

Trichomonas vag!nalis is a protozoan parasite which causes Trichomoniasis.

Symptoms

  1. Discharge from the pen!s or vag!na
  2. Discomfort or pain during sex or urination
  3. Frequent urination
  4. Itching or burning around the vag!na or pen!s
